San Francisco National Cemetery

“Situated in the northern center of the Presidio, the San Francisco National Cemetery offers a breathtaking final resting place for the nation’s military veterans and their families. Framed by Monterey Cypress and other majestic trees, the cemetery rests on a slope overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Among the 30,000 Americans laid to rest here are Civil War generals, Medal of Honor recipients, Buffalo Soldiers, and a Union spy.”

Clouds + City

With such dramatic clouds and light, I couldn’t resist climbing up on the roof to snap a few shots.  The Sa Francisco Mint is large the boxy building near the center of the frame, and Potrero Hill is off in the distance.

Chinatown & Nob Hill

You see something different and special every day in this town.  Here’s a couple of architectural photographs I took while walking around the edge of Nob Hill and Chinatown.  The second image is from inside a unit of the classic Nob Hill Francesca building at 850 Powell St. (They happened to be having an open house). Read more about the building and see Inside The Francesca.

4th of July

Shooting fireworks is always a fun challenge.  It’s difficult to take nice shots, especially if you want to watch the show outside of your camera’s viewfinder.

I often find it difficult to be in the moment while looking through a lens.  Photographing an event means being able to capture the moments as they unfold, but the act of holding the camera to your eye can take you away from the moment.  Instead of focusing on what’s happening  in front of you, you’re focused on how to capture what’s in front of you.  I find that especially concerning if you’re at a family or social event, where you’d like to be ‘present’ outside the lens.  Several of these images are ‘hip shots’, which allowed me to keep the camera off my face and still capture a stunning display of American pride.  More »

Engagement – K+Z

Kim & Zach!  Such a beautiful couple and fun loving people.  I think the photos speak volumes about how much fun these two are (and how much fun we had taking the photos)!  Best wishes to them in their lifetime together.

Brittany Iverson – Harpist

Our close friend Brittany Iverson is a San Francisco based harpist, drummer and music teacher.  When she’s not teaching school children the gift of music, she’s playing harp for events throughout Northern California.  She also plays drum set in several Bay Area bands, including the all-female rock cover band Burning Nylon!

Brittany is an incredibly talented musician, gifted teacher, and a great friend.  Here are some of our favorites photos from the shoot we did recently in Golden Gate Park.
