Shooting fireworks is always a fun challenge.  It’s difficult to take nice shots, especially if you want to watch the show outside of your camera’s viewfinder.

I often find it difficult to be in the moment while looking through a lens.  Photographing an event means being able to capture the moments as they unfold, but the act of holding the camera to your eye can take you away from the moment.  Instead of focusing on what’s happening  in front of you, you’re focused on how to capture what’s in front of you.  I find that especially concerning if you’re at a family or social event, where you’d like to be ‘present’ outside the lens.  Several of these images are ‘hip shots’, which allowed me to keep the camera off my face and still capture a stunning display of American pride.
